The Birth of a Women's Circle: A Journey in Southern Maryland
It all started with a feeling—a deep, sense that something was missing. Before becoming a Holistic Life Coach, Reiki Master and Crystal Practitioner, I, Ana, was on my own journey of self-discovery, helping myself connect and find who I was and where I fit in during this time of exploration and self-reflection, figuring out what my purpose in life was. I was fortunate to have, and still have, a great mentor who guides me through many aspects of life, helping me navigate the complexities of my personal and professional journey. Yet, I found myself yearning for something more—something communal, where women could come together, share, and heal as one.
Living in Southern Maryland since 2015, I began to notice that while there were spaces for personal growth, there wasn't a place dedicated to the sacred feminine, (At least I was not able to find it at the time) —a space where women could gather and hold each other up, honoring their stories, their cycles, and their wisdom. The desire to create this kind of community began to take root within me.
During this time, my wife, Krista, and I realized we were always the ones diving into conversations that others might avoid—topics that were often considered “hush hush” or too “woo woo.” These talks became a way of life for us, leading to the birth of The Spiritual Nerds, because we weren’t afraid to explore the deeper, often misunderstood aspects of life. I, especially, never shied away from making my point, knowing that somewhere out there, there were more people seeking the same thing I was seeking—to be seen, heard, and understood for who I was, just as I am.
So, I made a decision—I would create a women’s circle here in Southern Maryland. A circle that would be a safe haven for women of all ages and backgrounds to connect with one another, to share their stories, explore their emotions, and hold space for each other as they navigated the many stages of womanhood.
As I started building this vision, serendipity intervened. During my research for inspiration, I came across The Wild Woman Project, based in North Carolina. Founded by Chris Maddox, this initiative immediately resonated with me. The Wild Woman Project embodied the essence of what I had been envisioning—a global sisterhood that celebrates the wild, untamed spirit of womanhood, grounded in wisdom and collective intentions. Their vision mirrored mine in such an uncanny way that it felt like destiny.
Soon after, we became an official circle of The Wild Woman Project, connecting our local community to a global network of women who gather in safe spaces to honor the wild woman within.
Today, we gather monthly at The Real Food Studio, the perfect nurturing environment for our group. Each month, we explore a different theme that connects us to the rhythms of life, and our own inner landscapes. Here, simply holding space for each other, we come together to share, heal, and grow. Simple, yet powerful.
Looking ahead, the future holds even more for us. We plan to grow, expanding our circle to reach more women in our community, welcoming them into this safe space. Together, we will continue to deepen our bond, explore and embrace the full spectrum of womanhood. And just as our circle grows, so does our commitment to one another and to the vision of The Wild Woman Project.
The journey of creating this women’s circle has been transformative, not just for me, but for every woman who has joined. What we create together continues to ripple out, touching lives in ways we can’t always foresee. But what we do know is that this is only the beginning. Our circle will continue to expand, bringing more women into the fold, where they can feel seen, heard, and held.
With each gathering, we affirm that this space is ours—a place for wild women to unite, a place where we are free to be exactly who we are, and a place that will continue to thrive in Southern Maryland and beyond for many years to come.
